Day of Prayer – No Classes Today

Amid the business of classes, work, internships, and family, it certainly feels like taking a morning off is impossible. And yet, prayer is crucial for us, not just as individuals but also as a community.

In prayer, we are privileged to be both used and changed by God. So, if you can be on campus, come be a part of an extended time of prayer and worship. Classes are canceled for the day so everyone has the opportunity to participate. The Library will be closed for the morning and open for the afternoon.

Schedule for the Day:

  • 8:45 – 9 a.m. = Donuts and Coffee

  • 9 – 11:45 a.m. = Times of prayer, singing, and a short homily from Dr. Tom Gibbs.

  • Noon = Lunch for everyone in the Community Center, courtesy of our International Students!

If you can't come for all of this, join us for however long you have available. If you can't join us at all, consider pausing throughout your day, wherever you are, to join us in praying for our community, the church, and the world.

Online students are invited to join us via LiveStream.

Childcare available at the Log Cabin! RSVP here by Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Mapping the Wilderness: Ministry in a Post-Christian Pandemic World

Students entering the ministry in the West in our time encounter a world of shrinking Christianity, fewer church jobs and a new hostility aimed at the Christian community. This class will speak of a “truthing telling presenting“ way of sharing faith, and will also build a bridge to a “research introspection discovery“ way of walking among those who do not know Christ.

FSI & Henry Center Present – Divine Action in Historical and Contemporary Context

The Francis Schaeffer Institute and the Carl F. H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding present a special lecture series devoted to the theme “Divine Action in Historical and Contemporary Context.” More details to come.

Throughout Scripture, the God of Israel is revealed as the God who acts. In contrast to the idols of the nations, Israel’s God is the living God, possessing intellect and will, who sees and hears, and who intends and acts on behalf of his people in his mighty acts of creation, redemption, and covenant. Christians across confessional traditions have been united in affirming the centrality of God’s acts in history, even while understanding the precise nature of God’s intentions and actions differently. However, in the modern era, critical historical and scientific inquiry called these affirmations into question. It critiqued the philosophical explanatory systems traditionally employed to understand the nature of divine action and proposed scientific theories that presented a compelling picture of the world that appeared to conflict with these Christian affirmations.

These questions are still with us: are the traditional beliefs about divine action compatible with the methods and results of the natural sciences? Can one be informed, intellectually responsible, and still coherently affirm that God acts in the world–even in surprising and miraculous ways? This conference aims to explore and address these questions in a manner faithful to Scripture and in earnest dialogue with modern scientific research.

This event is made possible through the support of a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The opinions expressed in this conference are those of the participants and do not necessarily reflect the views of the John Templeton Foundation.
