Dr. Cameron Clausing Appointed to Systematic Theology Faculty at Covenant Seminary
Covenant Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cameron Clausing to the Seminary’s Systematic Theology faculty beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year. Dr. Clausing is currently Lecturer in Applied Theology and Missional Engagement and Academic Dean at Christ College in Sydney, Australia, where he has taught since 2021.
Dr. Clausing is an expert on the intersection of theology and ethics, especially as these relate to the life and mission of the church. His doctoral research deals with Herman Bavinck, nineteenth-century philosophy, and theological method. Prior to his time at Christ College, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theology at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia; a Lecturer at Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh, Scotland; and an Adjunct Professor at Williamson College and New College Franklin, both in Franklin, Tennessee. He also served as an Assistant Pastor at Parish Presbyterian Church in Franklin, and with Mission to the World as a missionary in Bogotá, Colombia, where he worked with Colombian church planters, served as Director of Youth Ministry at United Church of Bogotá (the only English speaking church in the city), and taught Hebrew to Colombian seminary students. In Australia, he has been working with the leadership team of a church plant for the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales, to launch later this summer in a predominantly Muslim area of western Sydney. He has also been active on several committees for both the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales and the Presbyterian Church of Australia.
Dr. Clausing holds a PhD in systematic theology from New College Edinburgh–University of Edinburgh, an MA (Religion) from Reformed Theological Seminary, and a BA in Bible and Theology from Moody Bible Institute. He is the author of Theology and History in the Methodology of Herman Bavinck: Revelation, Confession, and Christian Consciousness (Oxford University Press, 2023) as well as numerous journal articles on Bavinck, Neo-Calvinism, and many other theological topics. He is the translator and editor (with Gregory Parker Jr.) of Bavinck’s Guidebook for Instruction in the Christian Religion (Hendrickson Academic, 2022) and The Sacrifice of Praise: Meditations Before and After Admission to the Lord’s Supper (Hendrickson, 2019). He also serves as one of the co-hosts (with Allister Lum Mow and Murray Smith) of the Down Under Theology podcast. Dr. Clausing and his wife, Taryn, have two teenage children.
Of his appointment, Dr. Clausing said, “I am humbled and honored to be asked to join the faculty of Covenant Seminary in its mission of equipping the saints for ministry. It is exciting to become part of a community so devoted to nurturing growth in the grace of the gospel on many different levels. I am eager help students engage deeply with the Lord through their biblical, theological, and practical ministry studies for the purpose of building up the body of Christ.”
Dr. Robbie Griggs, Dean of Faculty for Covenant Seminary, commented, “The faculty of Covenant Seminary is very pleased to welcome Dr. Clausing into our midst. Through his unique blend of pastoral, theological, and mission-minded gifts, he has already made himself an influential ambassador for Christ in multiple church, mission, educational, and other ministry settings. We look forward to seeing how God will continue to use those gifts for Christ’s glory and for the good of his church.”
Covenant Seminary President Dr. Thomas C. Gibbs noted, “We are delighted to have Dr. Clausing joining our faculty at this exciting time in the institution’s history. His expertise as a theologian and teacher, his experience as a missionary and pastor, and his passion for reaching people interculturally with the gospel make him a wonderful addition to the Covenant family. We are grateful for the Lord’s provision of such a gifted pastor-scholar, and grateful for Dr. Clausing’s desire to share his wisdom in training and equipping the next generation of pastors, counselors, and ministry leaders for Christ’s church.”
