Dr. K.J. Drake
Associate Professor of Systematic Theology
Dr. K. J. Drake joined the faculty in Summer 2025. Dr. Drake holds a BA in History, Medieval & Renaissance Studies, Classics, and Latin from the University of Nebraska. After university, he attended Covenant Theological Seminary, earning his MDiv in 2012. He received his PhD in Historical Theology from Saint Louis University in 2018.
Before coming to Covenant, Dr. Drake served as Sessional Professor of History at Redeemer University in Hamilton, Ontario, (2018–2022) and Associate Professor of Historical Theology and Academic Dean at Indianapolis Theological Seminary (2002–2025). He has been actively engaged in the theological formation of future pastors and scholars with a commitment to confessional Reformed theology and ministerial preparation.
Dr. Drake was a Ruling Elder in PCA churches in Missouri (2015–2018) and Ontario (2021–2022), and he was ordained as a Teaching Elder in the Central Indiana Presbytery in 2023. Dr. Drake has been active in service to the PCA at the presbytery and denominational level. He served on Candidates and Credentials Committees in three presbyteries: Missouri Presbytery (2015–2018), Eastern Canada Presbytery (2021–2022), and Central Indiana Presbytery (2025). He also worked on the PCA Theological Examining Committee from 2022-2025 and chaired the committee in 2023–2025.
His scholarship focuses on historical and systematic theology, particularly the Reformation, Reformed Christology, and sacramental theology. He is the author of The Flesh of the Word: The extra Calvinisticum from Zwingli to Early Orthodoxy (Oxford University Press, 2021) and has published in peer-reviewed journals, including Westminster Theological Journal, Calvin Theological Journal, Journal of Reformed Theology, and Journal of Theological Studies.
K. J. is married to Heather, an RN. They met in Indianapolis while K. J. was teaching there and married in the summer of 2024.
