Dr. Joel Hathaway

director of alumni & career services

director of the doctor of ministry (Dmin) program

Dr. Joel D. Hathaway (MDIV ’04, DMin ’16) is the son of a pastor and has experienced the ups and downs of the impact of ministry on the pastor and his family. This has given Joel a passion to see Covenant graduates placed well and for churches to conduct the hiring process well. Over the past 16 years, he has evaluated hundreds of job descriptions, consulted with more than 75 churches, and advised and assessed over 600 pastoral candidates. He is certified in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and holds a Doctor of Ministry with an emphasis on leadership issues in the church. He is the author of Finding a Pastor: A Handbook for Pastoral Search Committees, available through the PCA’s bookstore.

Joel and his wife, Shannon, moved to St. Louis in 2000 after working with Mission to the World in Atlanta. They have four kids ages 13–22 who love music, sports, reading, and, most importantly, the Lord.
