Join Us for LDR ’13: The African American Leadership Development and Recruitment Weekend

When: August 30 – September 1, 2013 (Labor Day weekend)

Where: Covenant Seminary campus

What: The LDR weekend is an annual gathering sponsored by the PCA’s Mission to North America (MNA) that brings together current and prospective African American seminary students as well as missionaries, church planters, and ministry workers focused on urban or multicultural contexts. This time of collaboration, fellowship, and encouragement is open to all—you don’t have to be African American to attend.

What happens: Helpful tools for discernment will be provided, and participants will learn more about how they play a unique role in God’s Kingdom-building work in the world. Beyond teaching, the weekend will feature worship services, ministry fairs, and “family reunion”-style opportunities to connect with other like-minded Christians from across the country to learn about God’s work in their lives and ministries.

Presenters: The weekend features a series of workshops from several speakers in fields from pastoral ministry to higher education. Each presenter brings a wealth of experience and practical wisdom to share. This year’s presenters will interact with us on the subject of calling, facilitating discussion about the growing need for well trained, Reformed, African American professional and lay leadership. Many of our speakers are Covenant Seminary alumni, including:

  • Counseling Ministries: Suzanne Bates / Remargo Yancie
  • Women in Ministry: Staci King / Michelle Higgins
  • Music and Arts: Dishon Knox / Mazare Rogers
  • Pastoral Ministry: Tony Myles / Kevin Smith
  • Plenary Speakers: Mike Higgins / Randy Nabors / Thurman Williams / Carl and Karen Ellis

Organizers: This event is made possible through Covenant Seminary’s African American Student Fellowship’s unique partnership with Reformed Theological Seminary-Jackson, South City Church, the New City Network, and the PCA’s African American Ministries Network.
