Francis A. Schaeffer Institute 2014 Conference

The Francis A. Schaeffer Institute has announced the 2014 FSI Conference in association with First Light of St. Louis. “Homosexuality and the Church: Towards Faithful Pastoral Care”.

About the Conference:
Two respected Christian intellectuals lead us in carefully considering ways for the conservative evangelical church to re-imagine its pastoral response to same-sex attracted men and women, both within the church and in the broader culture.
In particular, our goal is to think about homosexuality in a theological and pastoral framework within the broader biblical story. Given how inarticulate the conservative Christian voice can sometimes be and how often men and women on both sides of this issue feel underserved by the church, so we wish to raise and help answer key questions of pastoral practice, such as:
* What might it look like for the church to come alongside those attracted to the same sex as they travel the difficult road of discipleship?
* Where we have sometimes exhibited a tendency to expect testimonies of complete deliverance, how might we understand discipleship in terms of “being on the way?”
* How can we disciple those who experience these trials well?
We believe it is essential for the church to articulate a positive conception of its views on sexuality broadly, and homosexuality specifically, in order to create redemptive space within the church for those experiencing same-sex attractions. The aim of our conference would be to provide useful pastoral guidance to the Covenant Seminary community–including alumni and other friends serving in local Bible-believing churches–that is informed by the gospel and by the experiences of same-sex attracted Christians.
