
Prior to embarking on theological studies, Dr. Brian Aucker worked in medicine as a nuclear medicine and MRI technologist. He came to Covenant Seminary to pursue his MDiv degree, graduating in 1996. His PhD thesis, undertaken at the University of Edinburgh, focused on the role of the prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 2–8. After completion of the degree, he served from 2001 to 2004 as a pastor at The Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA), St. Louis, Missouri, and then taught Bible from 2004 to 2007 at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis. He returned to Covenant Seminary as full-time faculty in fall 2007.
Dr. Aucker is the co-editor and contributor to Reflection and Refraction: Studies in Biblical Historiography in Honour of A. Graeme Auld (Brill, 2006). For the ESV Study Bible (Crossway, 2008), he wrote the study notes for Joel, Micah, and Haggai, and served as Old Testament Consultant as well as Old Testament Charts and Timelines Consultant. He contributed study notes for the book of Judges for the Gospel Transformation Study Bible (Crossway, 2013, 2018) and devotionals for the ESV Women’s Devotional Bible (Crossway, 2014). Since 2012 he has served as the Director of the ThM Program at Covenant Seminary and served for several years on the board of Presbyterian Mission International (PMI). He recently completed a commentary on Ezra-Nehemiah for Crossway’s ESV Expository Commentary (Sept. 2020).
Dr. Aucker is married to Pam, and their family includes three children, a son and daughter-in-law, and eight grandchildren.
