Speaker: Dr. Mark McMinn, Professor of Psychology and Faith Integration, George Fox University Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology
Topic: The Science of Virtue: Positive Psychology, Counseling, and the Church
The contemporary science of virtue, also known as positive psychology, opens new possibilities for the church, psychology, and counseling. Virtues that Christians have considered for centuries are now being explored in social science laboratories all over the world. But the problem is we aren’t talking much to one another. The science isn’t showing up in most churches and the Christian faith isn’t showing up in most social science laboratories and counseling offices. Dialogue between psychology, theology, and counseling can help build bridges that help both the church and the science. In this lecture series we will consider topics such as forgiveness, wisdom, gratitude, and humility.
