We have been working hard over the past year to refine our online curriculum based on student feedback. Here are a few of the changes we are making this semester that will lead toward better equipping our online students for a lifetime of ministry.
1: A More Flexible Schedule
Most online courses are now 8 weeks long. This gives you more flexibility. In a 16-week semester you will now be able to take two courses back-to-back. (You can also always take more than one class at a time).
The schedule will be more rigorous than before, but this way you can focus on fewer courses at a time. This means that all exams will be complete and projects turned in before you start your next course.
A handful of 16-week and 4-week courses will also still be offered.
2: More Options
We have doubled the amount of online courses you can choose from. Last year we offered around 5 online courses per semester. This year you can choose from 10 courses per semester.
3: New Degrees, New Formats
You can now choose from two new degrees:
- The MA (Biblical and Theological Studies) (MABTS), which can be completed fully online.
- The MA in Ministry (MAM), which requires only 4 trips to campus.
Additionally, the Master of Divinity (MDiv) can now be completed with as few as 6 trips to campus. You can now pursue our most in-depth ministry degree without leaving your current context.
The Master of Arts (Theological Studies) (MATS) can still be completed fully online.
One of the most common requests over the past year has been for more video. We are moving more of our courses to video-based instruction. Some courses this semester will still be audio-based. However, you can rest assured that whether you take a course on campus or online the instruction quality will be the same.
5: New App
Goodbye, Sakai—Hello, Canvas! We are changing our learning management software to be more user-friendly. Canvas will work much better on your mobile device. It will also allow you to better communicate with your professor and other students. You can download the Canvas Student app for mobile below.
For Canvas, visit convenantseminary.instructure.com and log in using your portal username and password.
6: New Staff
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Aaron Goldstein is now serving as Associate Director of Online Learning. He has taught many courses online and now is taking the lead for the online program. He is your go-to person for questions as you progress through the online program. You can reach Professor Goldstein at email@example.com.
We hope these changes enhance your current and future ministry.
We pray this semester draws you closer to Christ as you get equipped for a lifetime of ministry.
Jessie Swigart is the Dean of Academic Administration at Covenant Theological Seminary.
