When home ground is once again the mission field, how might the church become once more a missionary force? Will talk about the church being “missional” simply fall prey to yet another evangelical fad? Or will we finally acknowledge what is foundational to our being Christ’s people in the world?

Join us this September as the Francis Schaeffer Institute at Covenant Theological Seminary welcomes to our campus an exceptional cast of scholars and ministry leaders who will help us move beyond strategy to recapture our identity as those who join God in his mission to bless and heal the nations as the good news of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ is made known in and through the church: the sign, instrument, and foretaste of God’s salvation. We’ll raise the missional church conversation with the framework of the biblical story to help train and support pastors and those who serve beside them in light of a changed cultural landscape, and to reconnect the people of God with the Father’s sending of them into the world as agents of his reconciling work in Christ.

Whether you are new to the conversation or are already convinced that the church is the instrument of God’s passion to redeem the world, you are welcome to participate with us in the 2015 FSI Special Lecture Series. Our featured speakers include:

    • Dr. Michael Goheen, Director of Theological Education and Scholar-in-Residence at the Missional Training Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He is also Minister of Preaching at New West Christian Reformed Church in Burnaby, British Columbia, and the author of several books, including The Drama of Scripture: Finding Our Place in the Biblical Story (with Craig Bartholomew) and A Light to the Nations: The Missional Church and the Biblical Story.
    • Rev. Darrin Patrick, Founder and Lead Pastor of The Journey in St. Louis. Darrin is also Vice President of the Acts 29 Church Planting Network and Chaplain to the St. Louis Cardinals.
    • Rev. Josiah Bancroft, Director of Mission at Serge (formerly World Harvest Mission). Rev. Bancroft served in a variety of roles at Serge until 2005, including team leader, pastor, field director, U.S. Director, and Missions Director, before co-pastoring Grace Community Church in Asheville, North Carolina, for five years, after which he returned to Serge as Director of Mission.
    • Dr. Luke Bobo, Curriculum Director and Resident Theologian at Biblical Business Training. Dr. Bobo previously served as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Christian Ministry Studies at Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Missouri. He is the author of Living Salty and Light-Filled Lives in the Workplace.
    • Dr. Michael Williams, Professor of Systematic Theology at Covenant Theological Seminary; Adjunct Professor of Systematic Theology at Redeemer Theological Seminary, Austin, Texas; and Professor of Theology, Missional Training Center, Phoenix, Arizona. He is the author of Far as the Curse is Found: The Covenant Story of Redemption.
