WIC Love Gift 2011: Shaping a Community of Grace

In concert with the PCA's Women in the Church (WIC), Covenant Seminary has recently embarked on the Shaping a Community of Grace campaign to raise funds to enhance two of our key campus community spaces--the Edwards Community Center and Rayburn Chapel. We invite you to join us in this endeavor as we work, by God's grace, to train future pastors and their families for the blessings and challenges of ministry.

"The community you build in a seminary setting cultivates love for God that shapes effective leaders for Christ's church."

-- Dr. Bryan Chapell, President, Covenant Theological Seminary

Preparing Pastors to Lead God's People Today and Tomorrow

In a time when large numbers of pastors leave the ministry within their first five years of service, Covenant Seminary is committed to preparing a new generation of gospel-centered leaders who, by God's grace, will serve Christ in and through the church for decades to come. Fully equipping pastors to face today’s ministry challenges, and to remain in ministry long term, means going beyond mere classroom training. It means engaging and transforming the whole person—as well as the whole family—within a vibrant community of faith in which leaders can experience firsthand the life of grace they are called to embody.

Key to this training is the campus environment in which our students, faculty, staff, and their families learn, live, work, worship, and grow together through opportunities for deepening relationships and personal connections. Over the last 20 years, we have expanded our campus to meet the needs of our growing student body, yet we still lack a dedicated space for community events and other gatherings that could facilitate the kind of interactions and encouraging relationships that are essential to life together in Christian community.

"Having a place to fellowship after class and chapel worship to continue the discussion of what God is stirring in you is really important."

-- Lisa and Justin Der, current students

Community Center Improvements

The Edwards Community Center—the only large fellowship space on campus—is in need of improvements to accommodate the growth of our full-time student population. Having a dedicated space where students can gather informally with peers and professors to discuss what they are learning in their classes is essential to their training and to developing lasting relationships with others who will support and encourage them throughout their ministries.

  • Create a fellowship center for students and families to share a meal.
  • Improve community-wide gathering space for discussions and special events.
  • Provide venue for annual community, speaker series, and meeting needs.

"If anytime in life you need the support of a loving and worshiping community, you need it when you are raising little ones. We want the wives to be as nourished as the husbands are, both theologically and socially."

-- Rebecca Douglass, faculty wife

Rayburn Chapel Improvements

Rayburn Chapel—the heart of our worshiping community as we gather twice-weekly to praise God and hear his Word—has been the cornerstone of our campus for many years. It is now in need of expanded seating, facilities for families, and enhanced technology to help us proclaim the message of God’s grace to our local and global community.

  • Renovated foyer area for soundproofing needs
  • Technological enhancements to better capture and deliver gospel content around the world
  • Parental care room to serve entire families during chapel and events
