Francis A. Schaeffer Institute

Engaging Culture Courageously but Compassionately with Gospel Truth

Named for the renowned pastor, teacher, and author Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer, and based on principles established by Dr. Schaeffer through the ministry of his L’Abri Fellowship, the Francis A. Schaeffer Institute (FSI) exists to help God's servants demonstrate compassionately and defend reasonably the claims of Christ upon the whole of life. The goal of the Institute is to assist Christians in identifying and overcoming the cultural barriers that can get in the way of evangelism and to help believers become more faithful and effective in living out and expressing clearly the truths of God’s Word and its application in all areas of life.

"Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!"

Psalm 43:3 (ESV)

Under the leadership of Professor Jerram Barrs, resident scholar of the Schaeffer Institute and a former student of Dr. Schaeffer, the Institute accomplishes its goal through a variety of programs, forums, and outreach ministries that help students understand and interact respectfully with the people and ideas of today’s world. In this way the Institute prepares Christians to be salt and light beyond the church in the wider culture.
