Center for Ministry Leadership

Sustaining Pastoral Excellence for a Lifetime of Effective Ministry

Covenant Seminary is vitally concerned not only with finding the best ways to train pastors for future ministry, but also with how to sustain them for long-term service to the Church. In keeping with the Seminary's philosophy of pastors training pastors, the Center for Ministry Leadership explores issues related to pastoral ministry and seeks to develop principles and practices that will enhance the Seminary's ability to prepare church leaders who will remain rooted in grace for a lifetime of effective ministry.

"And he said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.'"

Luke 22:25–26 (ESV)

The Center achieves its goals through the following initiatives and primary emphasis:

These initiatives address potential ministry pitfalls and enrich pastors’ lives so that they may grow in their effectiveness and serve faithfully in their areas of calling. Participants regularly say, “This program is the most significant personal and professional experience of my adult life.”

These initiatives help pastors engage in open dialogue with other seasoned pastors and community business leaders for the purpose of developing best practices for ministry in the local church. The Center also conducts ongoing research into what it takes to sustain pastoral excellence over the long term, thus informing and shaping the Seminary’s curriculum and teaching methods.
