"The Invisibility of Power"--Of the three great and perennial ethical arenas for Christians--sex, money, and power--power is the least visible, measurable, or tangible. And it is strangely invisible, or at least under-represented, in Christian ethical reflection, especially at the popular and practical levels and especially outside the special cases of violence and force. Why and how we can all benefit from making power visible?

"Power, Privilege, and Risk"--We can begin to approach a constructive Christian vision of power when we distinguish power as coercion, power as creation, and power as new creation. We make further progress when we distinguish power, the exercise of which always entails risk, from privilege, which is the exercise of power to avoid risk. When we look at Scripture, and especially the life and ministry of Jesus, we discover a deeply challenging way of living with power, privilege, and risk that begins to suggest a Christian ethic for power in the world.

"Wrestling With Flesh and Blood"--The singular Christian contribution to any conversation about power is the recognition of heavenly powers--both divine and demonic--that operate beyond and through the realm of earthly power. Yet any Christian understanding of power must both ultimately give direction for our "flesh and blood" reality. How can we frail creatures live in the reality of God's resurrection power while also avoiding the corruptions of the "principalities and powers" that wage war in the cosmos?
