Sin, Impurity, Sacrifice, Atonement: The Priestly Conceptions (Sheffield, England: Sheffield Academic Press, 2005)

This closely reasoned study attempts to explain why, in Priestly texts of the Hebrew Bible, the verb kipper, usually translated "atone," means the way of dealing with both sin and impurity--which might seem very different things.
