Student Council Promotes Wellness Campaign

Seminary is such a unique season of life. As we navigate classes, work, friends, and family, we can have a lot to juggle. One of the first things we neglect is care for ourselves. We don’t get enough rest, can’t find time to exercise, and grab quick meals in an effort to keep all things going. Student Council has seen the need to engage in the conversation on wellness for the good of the community. What would it look like to join together to take care of ourselves holistically? Our vision is to join in a campaign to promote rest, exercise, and healthy eating out of a desire to serve the Lord through the stewardship of our bodies for a lifetime of healthy habits and ministerial longevity. We see this as an opportunity to grow in this facet of life together. As we look towards health we invite you to join us in these upcoming events:

  • Pound for Pound Challenge

This is a challenge where we pledge a weight loss goal (or a weight maintaining goal) to then provide food for a local food pantry.  For every pound we lose, a pound of food will be donated to the food pantry. Sign up now by joining Covenant’s Team at http://www.pfpchallenge.com/ and entering a team search for Covenant Theological Seminary. You can also join us on Facebook.

  • Walking Groups

This is an opportunity to enjoy a morning or afternoon walk with friends. The goal of the walking group is to enjoy exercise and community/conversation together. This can just become part of your routine or be a great place to start if you want to work towards the 5K.

Please e-mail Susan Needler at susanpneedler@gmail.com so we can determine interest and find a time to coordinate a walking schedule. All are invited, from those who love to exercise to those who struggle to enjoy it! Fun will be had by all!

  • Team Sports

If you are interested in joining the soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, or basketball teams, please e-mail Lee Wright at lee.e.wright@gmail.com so we can get you plugged in. All are invited!

Free Counseling for Students and Community

Free counseling is available at Covenant Seminary for students and members of the community. This service is provided by MAC students who are in the internship portion of their degree program, and is offered from August to April (although summer sessions may also be available at times). These counseling sessions are confidential, supervised by members of the counseling faculty and other counseling professionals, and take place in offices at the Seminary. If you are interested in this service, please call 314.392.4208.

MENTOR Program Deepens Pastoral Relationships

In a recent informal survey of men who have had successful ministries -- that is, they have weathered seasons of conflict and confusion and are still proclaiming the Gospel faithfully -- nearly every man indicated that he could not have done it without the support, encouragement, and friendship of another pastor -- a mentor. Yet, seminaries all across the country are graduating class after class of pastors who enter the ministry alone, with no close friends, confidantes, or mentors.

Covenant Seminary's Alumni Office offers the MENTOR (Ministry Enrichment Through Ongoing Relationships) partnership with pastors, in which graduates in their first five years of ministry are partnered with pastors who have eight or more years of experience in the ministry. This volunteer program draws on the experience, wisdom, and guidance offered by older pastors to younger ministers of God's Word. The hope is to develop deep and abiding relationships that will foster a lifetime of fruitful ministry.

If you are would like to participate in this program either as a mentor or recent graduate, e-mail Joel Hathaway, director of alumni and church relations.
