Dr. Honeycutt joined the faculty in 2009 after serving as Senior Pastor of Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama from 2000-2009. God used him to provide leadership during a season of numerical and spiritual growth at the church, which included significant ministry to youth and a comprehensive urban renewal effort in Huntsville. Before that, he served as Assistant Pastor of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee with a focus on Christian Education. And before that, he was a real estate developer on the coast of South Carolina.
Dr. Honeycutt's doctoral thesis was on William Cunningham, His Life, Thought, and Controversies;
his writing has focused on church leadership and church history.
