Dr. Chapell served as President of Covenant Seminary from 1994-2012. He began teaching at Covenant Seminary in 1984 after ten years in pastoral ministry. Before becoming President, he served for six years as vice president for academics and dean of faculty.

Dr. Chapell is much sought after as a speaker in churches and conferences around the country. His book Christ-Centered Preaching has established him as one of the nation's most recognized teachers of homiletics. He teaches the introductory homiletics courses and several practicums. His other books include: Christ-centered Worship, Ephesians Commentary, The Promises of Grace, In the Grip of Grace, Using Illustrations to Preach with Power, Each for the Other, The Wonder of It All, 1&2 Timothy: To Guard the Deposit (with R. Kent Hughes), Holiness by Grace, the children's book I'll Love You Anyway and Always, and Praying Backwards: Transform Your Prayer Life by Beginning in Jesus' Name.

Dr. Chapell and his wife, Kathy have four children.
